Multiband Processing Per Track
I just came across a very interesting article in EM magazine, which demonstrates how to split a track into independent parallel tracks, each assigned to a frequency band of choice. The only thing I disagree with is the routing. Rather than duplicating the track, I would have sent the original track’s output to None, then created 4 sends to buses that resemble the example’s individual tracks. That way, you wouldn’t have to manage multiple copies of the same guitar region within the arrange window in this example (you’d have one audio track sending to four bus aux channels). Despite this difference in opinion, the article is very helpful in getting your mind to think about how you can use a multi-band limiter (in this case included in Logic at no extra charge) to create various outputs with a high quality crossover. This is vastly superior to the DIY approach of using EQ filters to try and emulate a crossover. That works, but it isn’t nearly as accurate.
